CELEBRATE YOUR GOOD NEWS

Gethsemane would love to share with all of our Church family and friends, through our weekly bulletins, the wonderful news of new

Births, Adoptions, and  Fostering, anything that is a great accomplishment for you and your family.   Please share the excitement by contacting Jeff in the GUMC office, so I can share it in the weekly bulletin.

God loves you and He approves of this message.

A NEW ADULT BIBLE STUDY CLASS IS IN FULL SWING, WE WANT YOU TO COME.

9:45 in Hope Hall

We will be studying the writings of Paul. Of the 27 books in the New Testament, the Apostle Paul was the writer of 13 of them.  So Paul was a significant contributor to Christianity.  It promises to be a very interesting and fun study. Breakfast will be available after 9:30 am. Bible study will begin immediately after breakfast.  Leader of the new class will be Stanley Sones, who respectfully requests your presence. The class and breakfast will be held downstairs in Hope Hall. If you are not coming from the early church service, you may enter Hope Hall through the lower level take out side door. If you have children, there will be a Sunday School Class for them at the same time. If you need some more information or have any questions at all, PLEASE give Stan a call @ 345-6872 or 592-3988. Thank You, and hope to see you there,   Stan

TUESDAY AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

Our after school program for 2020 has begun. We are so hoping that a few of you will find it in your heart to give a small amount of time for the children. Time needed is one day (Tuesday) for approximately one and a half hours or less. There are possibilities of some terrific things for the future with our youth.  Please don’t miss the chance to go for the ride. Please give Jeff a call in the church office or stop in and talk about it. This is one of the most rewarding community outreaches that we here at Gethsemane offer. Any work with children of all ages is the most rewarding gift we can receive.

FINGERS of FAITH  Crochet/Knitting group meets Tuesdays @ 6:30. Join the fellowship to learn, share a pattern or get help with a difficult stitch.

EASTER DRAMA MEETING & PLANNING

It’s time to set our focus on Lent, Palm Sunday, Good Friday, and

Easter.  In anticipation of this moving and life altering season, there is

going to be an Easter drama meeting February 4, 2020 @ 7:00 PM.

Our drama “Cradle To The Cross” has become a greatly anticipated

local, County and beyond event attended by hundreds.  If you enjoy

seeing it, imagine what it truly feels like taking part

no matter how large or small that may be.

Please think about it deeply and pray for God’s direction.

TODAY IS THE LAST DAY FOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE  CRIB MINISTRY.

Wednesday Night Bible Study

On Wednesday Night Feb 12 at 7:00pm, we’ll start a 7-week study of the book of Judges.  Judges is a part of the Bible that, aside from Middle School boys, is not very popular. It’s the story of Israel’s total failure.  It’s disturbing and very violent. It’s the tragic tale of how, instead of becoming a Holy People for the good of the whole world, Israel becomes Canaanite.

So, why bother? The Book of Judges gives us insight into sinful human nature.  If we can learn from the book of Judges, if we can learn from the mistakes they made, then we can avoid—or at least curtail—the same kind of tragic tale.  If we learn from Judges, we won’t have to be the star of the story of people of faith betraying ourselves and becoming distracted and lost—becoming less than God created us to be.

Join us on Wednesday nights as we learn from Judges how to be Disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

FEBRUARY  BIRTHDAYS

“Come now, let us reason together,” says the Lord.

“Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.”

Age does not matter as God loves us equally. Please give us try! It truly is very interesting and fun.

Psalm 131 (NIV)

Psalm 131

A song of ascents. Of David.

My heart is not proud, Lord, my eyes are not haughty;
I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me. But I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother;  like a weaned child I am content.

Israel, put your hope in the Lord both now and forevermore.

Mark 5:21-43 (NIV)

Jesus Raises a Dead Girl and Heals a Sick Woman

21 When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake, a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake. 22 Then one of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. 23 He pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.” 24 So Jesus went with him. A large crowd followed and pressed around him. 25 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. 26 She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28 because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” 29 Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering. 30 At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?” 31 “You see the people crowding against you,” his disciples answered, “and yet you can ask, ‘Who touched me?’ ”

32 But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. 33 Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. 34 He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”35 While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?” 36 Overhearing[a] what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.” 37 He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James. 38 When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. 39 He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.” 40 But they laughed at him. After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. 41 He took her by the hand and said to her, Talitha koum!” (which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”). 42 Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished. 43 He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat.
